3 Ways I Overcame Depression And Transformed My Life.

About 20 years ago, I suffered from severe depression. And to let you know how severe it was, words can’t begin to express the stronghold it had on my life. I cried constantly, I avoided people, and I contemplated suicide a multitude of times.

After experiencing this for what felt like an eternity, but was only just a few months, I sought help from an external source. I went to therapy and although it initially helped a bit, something became painfully clear to me. It also scared the daylights out of me at first thought. The realization I discovered was this,

If anyone or anything was going to pull me out of depression and despair, it had to be me. Not just me, but a level of resolve that would stand up to the thoughts of fear, hopelessness, and impending doom….

Standing in the midst of the biggest battle of my young life, I did what I did all of the time, I prayed. At that time, I don’t even really know if I could say my prayers was being heard, but I knew it was my last hope. I needed to have faith in something, and in choosing to have faith in God, God gave me faith in myself. He helped me to overcome depression one step at a time. Here’s how.

  1. You Must Feel All Of Your Emotions To Limit The Impact Depression Has On You. By far, this was the most pivotal step of all. Depression attacks the thoughts because it begins in the emotions first.

If I was to rise above the adversity I was facing, I had no choice to dive into those emotions that were rooted there from my childhood. Depression is like someone wearing an iron boot while holding it against your throat.

By feeling those emotions, the iron boot was released, and there was immense relief. Why? Well, once my emotions were cleared, my thoughts became more calm and constructive. What once felt like a hopeless situation, began to look better, because of the change I experienced on the inside.
