THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS, PRIMED FOR A SUPER BOWL RUN…IT’S MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL.
I grew up in one of the roughest parts of New Orleans. On the streets of Canal Street and Broad, there wasn’t much to cheer for. We were located right across the street from the Parish prison and I consistently saw young men lose their lives to jail time over senseless acts of crime.
If it wasn’t that, it was violence that always showed up on the television screens every night.
Even for a six year old, life seemed a lot like a struggle until I observed my mom watching a Saints football game. Now I will be real with you. They were absolutely terrible for the most part if you’re old enough to remember. But she didn’t care one bit.
For three hours every Sunday, she sat in front of that TV and screamed, cursed, cheered as well as ran through the house with her hands in the air.
And, oh my god, if they won it was going to be a great week no matter what! That’s when I learned a truth that more than 70% of New Orleanians knew:
