Two Powerful Life Lessons Hollywood Has Taught Me (Part 1).
My very first acting class was in the spring of 2004 in downtown New Orleans. I took the entire $2400 I had saved up to that point and apprehensively, yet excitingly paid for acting school.
After retiring from football, I was ready to embark upon a new career, or rather the original career that I always wanted. I didn’t know one person who was an actor or performer, but I was wide-eyed and eager to become a star! Ha! If only it was as easy as I was envisioning in my head.
The next year was a series of challenges that made me wonder if I was really cut out for this type of work. After going flat broke, paying an extra $1200 each month in addition to my living expenses, it seemed as if I was out of options. But I never gave up. The reason I mention this experience first is because the school I attended was run by Hollywood people.
Around that time the film industry was making a huge move to Louisiana for tax breaks and incentives. The film industry erupted over the next decade or so. So, it seemed like perfect timing for me to jump into acting school. This is where powerful life lesson number one from Hollywood came to the forefront.
